Sanford, Fla. - Dave Brewer, one of Central Florida's largest and most active builders of luxury custom homes, is also one of the nation's "smartest" home builders, according to a recent nationwide survey. TecHome Builder magazine, a leading U.S. trade publication that many home builders regard as "the bible" of high tech in home construction, ranked Dave Brewer third in the country in a nationwide survey to learn what sorts of technology home builders are offering today. "We are delighted," said Brewer, who builds homes that are priced from the $400s to more than $2 million in such exclusive neighborhoods as Alaqua, Alaqua Lakes and Heathrow Woods. "High technology is in great demand today, especially in luxury homes. This is the technology age, and many home owners want the newest, the latest, and the most sophisticated home technology that's available," he said. Brewer said "standard" technology today includes a structured wiring system that accommodates everything from high speed Internet access to cable TV in every room of a home. Such systems are standard in every home Brewer builds, along with a central distribution facility that enables homeowners to control telecommunications from a central facility. Security and monitoring systems are also standard, Brewer said, as are distributed audio systems that allow homeowners to play and control audio throughout the home. Brewer said most of the homes he builds also offer home theater systems that can rival the best multi-plex theaters for sound and picture quality, and digital home control systems that can operate everything from interior and exterior lighting to swimming pool water temperature from a single location. "In our parents' day light switches and a thermostat on the wall were usually sufficient," Brewer said. "High tech consisted of dimmer switches in the dining room.
